Starting with MessagEase version 8.0, You can create your own personalized keyboard or a keyboard for any Latin-character-based language. You can reprogram any keyboard to remove or change any of its secondary letters or special characters.
Redesign the keyboard to include accented characters your language has, or create one that includes the special characters you mostly use.
(If you create more than one keyboard, you can switch between them
by a
drag-left-return on 123/ABC button on the main keyboard.)
To reprogram a keyboard, tap on reprogram_your_string from settings_string List or tap on the Program button in Languages & Keyboards.
Once there, bring up the keyboard by tapping and selecting the original character box on top left. This box will contain the original character of the position to be replaced.
Selecting the position to be programmed:
Drag on the keyboard position that you want to reprogram. If this position is reprogrammable, the original character of that position shows up in the left box.
If this position is already programmed, then either the replacement character for it shows up in the second box, or the hide_string checkbox is checked.
Hiding or replacing the character:
To hide the character of the selected position, check the hide_string box and then tap on update_string or string_plus.
To replace the character in the selected position, tap on the second box to enter the replacing character.
You can enter the replacing character using any part of MessagEase keyboard, or you can copy this character from elsewhere and paste it here.
(Please note: While it's not possible to enter a two-character combine in the second box, you can often enter the first of the two combine characters and then drag on combine_string to roll through the accented characters related to the first.)
Once you specify the position and the replacing character, tap on update_string or string_plus to add this modification to the list.
Please note: If
update_string or
string_plus is grayed out,
it means that the exact same modification already exists on the list.
You can always delete a modification by tapping on the G on the list of modifications. Also tapping on any item on the modification list will update the two boxes on top with that modification.
